NFL Trade Deadline Debauchery

Most years you don't get a newsworthy story at the NFL trade deadline, but this year we got three! Err, scratch that, two. Well, let's call it two and a half. What are they? As usual, TDZ's got you covered.

I'm coming out of un-retirement everybody!
Click below to see this years winners and losers!

Oakland Raiders trade: 2012 1st round pick, conditional 2013 second round pick
Cincinnati Bengals trade: Carson Palmer

What a windfall for the Bengals. First round picks aren't easy to come by - or so I thought - and they have the chance for a second rounder on top of that if this pans out. The best part? Palmer was never going to play for the Bengals again anyways! While that whole situation was ridiculous, this move is like the Raiders paying the Bengals a ton of money for the privilege of giving them up to 2 early draft picks. With an elite receiver in A.J. Green, and a surprisingly effective rookie QB in Andy Dalton, Cincinnati's future is looking bright.

What a bonus: Cincinnati consumers don't have to see this signage anymore.
As for the Raiders, it's just one front office blunder after another. Palmer is just an average starting QB from my perspective. His QB rating is similar to Jason Campbell's, so he's not an improvement, plus I'm alarmed by his 76-57 TD-INT ratio over the past 4 seasons. David Garrard would have been a much better signing: he has a similar skill set to Campbell, plus they wouldn't have to give up any picks or pay so much. I imagine he's recovered from surgery for a herniated disc by now.

Watch for the Raiders to nevertheless win the Super Bowl and make me look like an idiot as the ghost of Al Davis haunts me. Too soon? Not if they win.

Winner: Bengals

St. Louis Rams trade: 2012 6th round pick
Denver Broncos trade: Brandon Lloyd

Say what you will about Josh McDaniels as a head coach, the guy can coordinate an offense. Lloyd used to be a garbage WR1 on teams with awful passing games like San Francisco and Washington, then McDaniels united him with Kyle Orton of all people, and he turned plop into gold.

Seriously, this guy might be the king of diving catches.
Lloyd went on to lead the NFL in receiving yards last year, and you've got to imagine that he can have similar success with a high ceiling QB like Sam Bradford. Of course, all this is predicated on the notion that Bradford's offensive line won't get him killed, which is a dubious one to say the least.

Winner: Rams

St. Louis Rams release: Mike Sims-Walker
Jacksonville Jaguars sign: Mike Sims-Walker

Winner: Rams

Philadelphia Eagles don't trade: Ronnie Brown
Detroit Lions don't trade: Jerome Harrison and 2013 7th round pick

I've been a Jerome Harrison mark ever since he ran for 286 yards and 3 TDs back in late 2009. I was dying to see him in a starting role once again, and when I heard that Mikel LeShoure was out for the year, I realized he might be one classic Jahvid Best turf toe injury away from statistical glory once again.

Oh how he flew that day.
Sadly, a physical revealed that he has a brain tumor, voiding this trade but perhaps saving his life. Not to joke at all, but it's ironic that a league known for damaging the brains of its players (Best included) actually may have saved Jerome's due to routine physicals.

Winner: Jerome Harrison, for discovering this tumor and having a procedure done today. Let's hope it goes well.
