Some NBA trade news to chew on until TDZ returns:
Clippers ship Baron Davis to the Cavs for Mo Williams and a 1st round pick
Winner: Clippers. I wouldn't have even asked for a 1st rounder, I would've traded him straight-up for some delicious, freshly-baked cinnamon buns. Coincidentally, they're about equally doughy.
Nuggets send Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, and a few generic vets to the Knicks
Knicks send Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, a couple Europeans, 3 draft picks, and $3 million to the Nuggets, and Anthony Randolph plus a sack of non-basketball playing meat to the Timberwolves
T-Wolves send Corey Brewer to the Knicks and Kosta Koufos to the Nuggets
Winner: Nuggets. They actually got something in return for Anthony instead of losing him at the end of his contract, and they weren't going to win an NBA championship anytime soon with him anyways. T-Wolves were a close second here. They really added to their heaping pile of players who can't play. The Knicks, on the other hand, are acting like they're trying to win, which is a real departure from what I thought was their hedgehog concept, i.e. being the laughingstock of the league.
Nets send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, and two first round picks and cash to the Jazz
Jazz send Deron Williams
Winner: Jazz. Jerry Sloan is going to wish he stuck around, because first round picks from the Nets are like (lottery) money in the bank (edit: one of the draft picks is Golden State's: also money). Meanwhile, that rich Russian owner for the Nets must've been boozing Yeltsin style to make this seem like a good deal, especially since many believe D-Will d-won't stay in NJ once his contract is up.
Celtics send Kendrick Perkins and Nate "Tiny" Robinson to the Thunder
Thunder send Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic to the Celtics
Winner: Celtics. I'm shocked by this trade. At first, I was outraged... Kendrick Perkins is a crucial part of the Celtics D, right? Well, their defense was about the same as before, even with him sidelined, so the moral of the story is that Garnett just needs to stay healthy and serve his usual role as the Commodore Perry of the Celtic's D: just keep him healthy and the defense will hold. Jeff Green is a tweener forward who can score and spell both Garnett and Pierce for the rest of the regular season. Krstic is a large body with decent post D, but he has me thinking of the days of Vitaly Potapenko.
Meanwhile, the Thunder are overloaded with guards, so Nate Rob isn't particularly value-adding, but they do get the fierce presence in the paint they've always lacked. Without Garnett, we'll see if he's a boggart or the real deal.
What the hell is this hiatus for. What am I going to do now in the middle of the day, watch Price is Right? Danger you have screwed me for the last time!
